AAA Kings Start 2012-13 Campaign with Challenge Championship
The 2012-13 2K AAA Redford Kings, in its first few weeks of existence, has kick-started their new Spring season by claiming the 2012 Spring Selects Challenge Tournament Championship.

Together as a team for less than a month, the Kings beat the 01 AAA Little Caesars North team 2-1 in a dramatic shootout, just one day after beating the Caesars team 5-2, to win its first tournament in its first try.

In the finals, after a scoreless first two periods, the Kings came back from a 1-0 third period deficit to tie the game and send it into overtime. After another scoreless overtime period, the Kings netted the winner in the second shootout round to take home the trophy.

The Kings began the tournament with a 11-0 thumping of a Windsor (ONT) select AAA team and knocked off old foe Midland 4-1 before a 5-2 win over Caesars later that day. But in Sunday's final, Caesars - one of the top five 01 AAA teams in the country which has been together for three years - came at the newly built Kings squad looking for revenge and almost pulled it off before falling to Redford in the finals shootout.

The new AAA Kings now set their sites on the Chicago "Chi-Town Challenge" where they will face some of the top 2000 AAA talent in North America the weekend of April 20th.

2K Kings Complete Undefeated Little Caesars Regular Season

First Yzerman Level Pee Wee A Team to Do It Since 2008-09 Season

2K Kings and Roman The 2000 Redford Kings wrapped up its first undefeated regular season in just its first year of existence January 11 when they beat Novi 3-1 to finish the Yzerman schedule at 16-0-4. It’s the first time a Tier II Pee Wee A team has finished the top tier of the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League (LCAHL) without a loss since the 97 Suburban Stars did it in the 2008-09 season and the first time a top tier 2000 team has accomplished this feat since the Flint Icelanders during the same 08-09 season.

The 2K Kings, which played as the Birmingham Rangers prior to joining the Redford Township Hockey Association this season, began its undefeated run inauspiciously back in October when they blew a late two goal third period lead to tie defending state champion Midland at the Dow Center 4-4. But the 2K Kings went on to dominate Yzerman level teams the remainder of the season, including avenging the Midland tie with a 4-3 win in December.  The Kings, in their undefeated run, beat all 10 division opponents at least once this year and amassed a gaudy +68 goal differential, leading the top division in scoring, while finishing just one goal out of first in goals allowed.

The Roman Andrys led 2K Kings will begin their pursuit of a Michigan Amateur Hockey Association State Championship on January 21 when they face Little Caesars Tier II in the first game of the regional playoffs.  The Little Caesars Championship round will begin later this month as well.

'97 and '99 Kings Claim Chicago Cup Championship

Four Redford Kings teams kicked off the season at the Chicago Cup Championship and half came home with a championship! The 1997 and 1999 Redford Kings claimed the Chicago Cup in the finals on October 2 to launch the 2011-12 season in championship form.

Kings Logo (Purple)The new ’97 Kings, led by coaches Roman Andrys and Terry Lucas, opened the tournament against a strong St. Louis Blues team and walked away with a 3-1 win. After a draw against the Naperville Sabres and a win against the Northwest Chargers, the ’97 squad then drew a rematch with the Sabres and the tie was a distant memory as the Kings whipped them 5 to 1 to advance to the Chicago Cup championship game.

In the finals, the Kings faced off against the team they started the tournament with, the St. Louis Blues and they prevailed again, winning 4-1, winning the Chicago Cup for the first time. "The tournament run was just great for our team," said '97 Kings Coach Terry Lucas. "I give my thanks to all who were involved with, set up and ran this tournament. It was a great experience for our kids and we would love to attend another My Hockey tournament in the future."

’99 Kings Prevail

The 1999 Redford Kings hockey team marched into Chicago and came home with a championship, but it wasn’t easy. The Kings first foe hailed from the South Side of Chicago. The rough and tumble St Jude Knights. The Knights proved no match for the Kings as the Kings skated to an easy 5-1 victory. With that victory etched in their minds, the Kings may have overlooked their second opponent, an always dangerous Huskies Hockey club . They proved to be just that. The Huskies outplayed the Kings and skated away with a 4-2 win.

That loss set-up a heavyweight tilt versus the Chicago Blues on Saturday night at the Edge Ice Arena. Despite out-shooting the Blues 31-6, the best the Kings could do was muster a 2-2 tie. A tie proved to be enough as the Kings sneaked into the semis as the #4 seed. That set up a rematch with the powerful Huskies. The semi game was a close affair as the teams traded scoring opportunities through 2 periods of play. The score reflected the tightness of the game as it was a 1-1 contest entering the final 13 minutes. The Kings began to tilt the ice in the third and quickly scored the go ahead goal. From there they added 4 more to advance to the finals.

The final game was a lopsided contest. The Kings quickly pounced on their Chicago opponents just 25 second into the game. They would add a second goal 2 minutes later. The wind was clearly out of the Blues sails. A power play goal made it 3-0 and the Kings cruised home with a 6-2 win.

Congratulations to both squads! A great start to the maiden voyage of the Kings Hockey Club.

To Our Families;

As you now know, the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) passed legislation last summer which required all independent organizations to align with a community affiliation beginning this fall.

Aware this was happening, we began immediately exploring options. Several possibilities emerged. Slowly we delved into each one. I won't bore you with all the details. I will simply say it was a very laborious process filled with many unexpected twist and turns.

We are happy to report that by a unanimous vote by their board, one of the oldest hockey associations in the state, the Redford Township Hockey Association (RTHA) has welcomed the now former Rink Rats and the 2K Rangers to their organization.  We are excited about this new relationship, new uniforms, and a new swagger as we head into a new season. The RTHA is also thrilled to have us as a compliment to their Redford Royals franchise.

All Kings teams will play games and hold some practices at the Beech Daly Redford Rink as well as hosting practices at Cranbrook and Oak Park. Our training schedule of 4-6 on-ice practices along with 4 off-ice sessions per week will not change!!

Before concluding, a quick word about RTHA (Redford Township Hockey Assc). Their attitude, dedication and commitment to teaching youth hockey is spot-on with ours. Furthermore, my dealings with them could not have been more forthright, upfront and honest. It's a perfect match.

Bottom line - we are very excited about our new affiliation and the potential for our four teams and are very happy to be part of RTHA. I trust you will feel the same. We will represent them proudly.

As always, please let me know of any concerns at coach@RedfordKings.com

Thanks,

Kings Get a Redford Welcome in Observer

The New Redford Kings Hockey Organization got a warm welcome to the Redford Township Hockey Association with a great story in a recent edition of the Redford Observer. The story details Roman Andrys' coaching regimen as well as Jana Andrys' off-ice training work.  It's nice to be recognized for all the great work Roman and Jana do for our kids and the fact the Redford Township Hockey Association is as happy to have us be a part of the organization as we are.

2K Kings Capture OJG Tournament Championship in Royal Fashion

May 1, 2011 – TROY - The 2011 Spring version of the new Redford 2K Kings got off to a resounding franchise beginning this weekend when they trounced the Livonia Knights 6-1 to finish undefeated and champion of the  6th Annual Tournament of Champions Oakland Grizzlies Invitational.

With the world "abuzz” about the royal wedding festivities this weekend, the Kings took to the ice looking to celebrate their own version of royalty in their first ever franchise tournament.  In a hard hitting weekend of crushing checks and tremendous team play, the Kings twice beat Livonia and doubled up the Silver Springs Select team from Ontario as well as beating the host Oakland Junior Grizzlies to win the tournament going away, outscoring its opponents by a combined 30-10.

The tournament was anything but an exhibition "showcase" atmosphere as both the Knights and the Silver Springs squad brought their "A” physical game but could not knock the Redford 2K squad from an overall "A” game that featured tremendous contributions from the entire squad, though missing key members of the team throughout the weekend because of competing schedules that normally accompany Spring sports.

Congrats to the team for kicking off the Redford Kings franchise in regal fashion with the organization's first tournament championship.
